Le Ring is a very interesting place for improvised music and improvised theatre. The performance place is a very big simple empty factory hall with two third reserved for the public and one third a empty space for the stage. Three walls, one back-wall, and two side ones with no exit or entrance; the fourth side, the front stage is totaly open to the public. So Tetsu and myself had a twenty meters bright, twelve meters deep stage, and ten meters high celling, to flll up with sound and our bodies, with the support of four lightning spots. The performance would be about one hour and a half.
I thought that, for this impressing challenge, it was very important to follow the rules that the masters tought to me: "take the time to feel, and do not move around just because you think that you have to entertain the space". Tetsu's and myself's feellngs after the performance, as well as many public comments were very positive and I was very happy to notice that this time and in such challenging circumstances I did manage to listen to the rules of the masters without disturbing myself, which is, I believe, the difficult part of what improvisation requers. a very positive lesson and I will remember it. And even if I do know that, it is not often that I manage to put it fully in practice.
