Barbershop "Fuji" is one of the most interesting and particuliar performing place where I had the pleasure to dance. Situated in Saitama, a neibourghood town of Tokyo,it is a real barbershop (since 1953!), and his owner is a real baber. This place funktion as a barberhop during the day and some evenings it will become a Improvisation Life place where most of the famous improvisators among the world scene who came for a tour in Japan, had a concert. Great musicans as Joelle Léandre (France), Louis Clavis (France), Peter Brotzmann (Germany), Peter Kowald (Germany). On the barbershop homepage you can see a photo of Barre Philips getting his hair cut (in fact his head washed because he has no hair) by Mister Wataru Matsumoto.

The name of the owner is Mister Wataru Matsumoto and he lives with his family in an apartement which is part of the barbershop's house. The living room is for the occasion used as a wardrobe and when you are sitting among the many children toys that are there, you do not think that you are waiting to perform on stage. Mister Wataru Matsumoto loves intensively improvised music and he has an impressive collection of CDs. The house will be full with twenty spectators and some of them travel from Tokyo which means at least an hour trip.
